Creamless nights – hit or miss?

Creamless nights is an idea put forth by chemist Dr. Rudolf Hauschke. It is shocking in its assumptions, so it is quite hard to agree with it

The idea is to limit the use of cosmetics containing emollients. According to the chemist, creamless nights make the skin regain its balance and independently deal with such imperfections as dryness, excessive sebum production or atopy.

Where did the idea for creamless nights come from?

Chemist Dr. Hauschka was interested in the natural processes of the skin from the very beginning. Together with cosmetologist Elisabeth Sigmunt, he founded a cosmetics brand. As a result of their collaboration, the scientist came to the conclusion that too much skin care can lead to negative dermatological changes.

Hauschka says that at night, many regenerative processes take place on the skin, which sufficiently deal with skin problems. When the sebaceous glands become clogged, the skin receptors become dysregulated and produce too little or too much sebum

Are fats harmful to the skin?

It cannot be said unequivocally that emollients are harmful to the skin because they do a lot of good too. First of all, they contain lipids that strengthen the natural hydrolipid barrier of the epidermis. Only their frequent use can negatively affect the condition of the epidermis.

As previously mentioned, the skin regenerates at night. It has its natural rhythm, during which it cleans itself by getting rid of toxins. Excess oils can actually lead to its disruption

The idea of the creamless nights – how does it work?

The purpose of the creamless nights is to help our skin regain its balance. The method is very simple and easy to implement into our lives.

In the first phase, all heavier night cosmetics (i.e. those with emollients in their composition) should be discarded. These will be all masks, oils, creams and some serums. For skin care, it is recommended to choose only those that are water-based. They are recommended by Dr Hauschka himself. The water formula of the cosmetic allows the skin to breathe freely, thereby restoring its natural balance

In the second phase, introduce a three-step skin care consisting of cleansing, toning and applying a light cosmetic. If you want your skin to rest, you can end the process with toning

How to take care of your skin?

If we introduce creamless nights into our lives, we need to change our skin care habits. During this time, heavily nourishing and moisturizing products should be used every morning

Dr. Hauschka does not discourage the use of emollients, but only convinces us to limit them. Creams, oils, masks rich in humectants and emollients can do a lot of good for our skin, if they are used during the day, when our skin really needs it.

Creamless nights – what effects do they have?

To many, this idea seems unbelievable. After all, we have been told for so many years that man consists of ¾ of water, and therefore moisturizing and oiling the skin has a positive effect on the condition of the epidermis. However, not only Dr. Hauschka is in favor of giving up night creams.

A very similar stance on this issue is taken by the well-known aesthetic medicine surgeon Dr. Zein Obagi. He has similar objections to using nourishing creams at night as Hauschka.

Do creamless nights really help?

This is a relatively new idea that has a multitude of opponents as well as supporters. It certainly fits into the trend of minimalism. The amount of cosmetics on store shelves is dizzying, and women who love cosmetic products can have a lot of them. In this case, the skin may be overloaded with various products, and creamless nights will give it a moment of rest and time to regenerate

On the other hand, people who have thin, dry and mature skin find it hard to imagine a night without cream. Their epidermis is not able to provide adequate hydration on its own, and as a result, in the morning the skin is tight and lacks radiance

Owners of this type of skin should use the described three-step care, and then apply an oil or nourishing cream over the hydrated serum
